“Exceeded Our Expectations”

We have just returned from a one-night stay at 1840 Guest House and wish we could have stayed longer. From the beautifully appointed room, to the very gracious hosts, it was a perfect stay. “Pristine” is the word my husband used to describe the cleanliness, and we enjoyed all the amenities in our suite. The continental breakfast was very good and prepared in a manner that showed attention to detail. This B & B rivals 5-star hotels for pampering guests. We will definitely be back!

“Wonderful host and location!”

Booked an over night stay and were totally blown away by the location, right on the Rideau River in the historic village of Merrickville. Walking distance to eateries, shops and LCBO.  Room had private bathroom, beautiful furniture and decorations. Couldn’t ask for more! Property was clean, down right spotless. My husband gave this a 14 out of 10 and I totally agree.

“Very clean and restful”

Mike was a great host and tended to our every need. The rooms were spacious, sparkling clean and had all the enmities you’d expect from a 5 star hotel room, from free WiFi and Netflix to a cozy fireplace. I would recommend this B&B to everyone!

“Mother daughter get away”

The purpose of our time away was rest and relaxation and staying at the 1840 Guest House added to the success of the weekend. Very friendly hosts, nice breakfast and close to the wonderful shopping and attractions. Sitting on the balcony chatting and watching the water was absolute heaven

“Yes, It is that nice”

I read the reviews of the 1840 Guest House and my wife and I stayed there for one night in April. I’ve read all the other reviews and totally agree with all of them. This inn is the total package. It is clean, comfortable and convenient to the village. Everything was perfect. The bed was great, the bathroom was great, the available snacks were great and the continental breakfast in the morning was more than enough for us. If you are looking for place to stay in Merrickville this should be your first choice.

“Best B&B We’ve EVER Stayed At”

This was, by far, the best B&B we have ever stayed at. Let me just try to list some of the things that are perfect about the 1840 Guest House: big room, beautiful furniture, comfortable bed, really comfortable pillows, high quality linens, romantic fireplace, plush towels, very nice common area with drinks and snacks, balcony off the common area that overlooks the Rideau Canal, great self-serve breakfast so you can get out when you need to. Mike and Dawn were incredibly gracious. Find some reason to go through Merrickville, Ontario, it’s an awesomely cute town, so you can stay here. We took a boat trip on the Rideau Canal that was really nice. Can’t wait to go back!!!

“A Beautiful Escape”

Mike and Dawn are lovely hosts of this beautiful B&B! The rooms are spacious and luxurious and very comfortable. Rooms have WIFI, Netflix, fireplaces … everything you would need if you didn’t want to ever leave your room! Beautiful shared balcony with a nice view of the river. I highly recommend the 1840 Guest House in Merrickville!

“What a gem!”

You need to stay at this Bed and Breakfast, what a beautiful place and highly recommended! We stayed July 1st for 1 night as we were heading to Ottawa for the fireworks at Parliament Hill. The room was incredibly clean, quiet, nice floor plan and had a gorgeous private bathroom. The owners Mike and Dawn were exceptionally sweet, welcomed us with genuine smiles and provided us with so much information about Merrickville. Staying here, you are within walking distance to everything: bakery, ice cream shop, the canal, dining, sightseeing & tourist exhibits. The continental breakfast was lovely, nothing beats having my cup of coffee while overlooking the river in the morning. My boyfriend and I can hardly wait to return….see you in the fall 1840 Guest House :)

We had a wonderful stay at this B&B in Merrickville.”

We had a wonderful stay at this B&B in Merrickville. The hosts were friendly and shared the history of their home and its décor. The bedrooms and bathrooms are well appointed, clean and comfortable. The breakfast hall is set up for guests to use at any time of day or night. It is conveniently located close to the river, the canal lock, the main streets, shopping and all amenities in Merrickville. We would highly recommend this B&B to anyone intending to visit the area. Thank you Mike and Dawn.

“Wonderful host and location!”

Booked an over nite stay and were totally blown away by the location, right on the Rideau River in the historic village of Merrickville. Walking distance to eateries, shops and LCBO. Room had private bathroom, beautiful furniture and decorations. Access to fridge. Couldn’t ask for more! Property was clean, down right spotless. And our host , Mike was so friendly and welcoming. Had everything at his finger tips. Menus from local eateries, points of interest, discounts at some of the local retail establishments and intimate knowledge of the area. My husband gave this a 14 out of 10 and I totally agree.

“Best B&B in the area!”

My husband and I had an opportunity to stay at this B&B a couple of weeks ago. My husband was reluctant to stay at a B&B – this was his first stay at a B&B. What a fantastic B&B – the rooms are beautifully appointed with quilts, the bed is ultra comfortable, the rooms are meticulous and the hospitality from Mike and his wife were out of this world. The rooms are located upstairs – very private – you do not feel as though you are encroaching on the owners. The location is walking distance to great shopping and restaurants. The continental breakfast and the selection of coffees and teas was abundant. The true testament to our experience is the fact that my husband wants to return – in fact we’ve already booked our next visit. We are looking forward to our room facing the Rideau.

“A terrific getaway!”

My wife and I stayed one night at this terrific “getaway” location. Mike and Dawn have obviously invested a lot into creating a “home-away-from-home” atmosphere. If you are looking for a VERY affordable, spotless, tranquil location within a few steps of charming Merrickville and the town’s specialty shops then this is a place you must consider. The things that most people look for waiting for you: the bed was very comfortable, the room we had (Number 2) was spacious, the room and ensuite were spotless. The owners set up a “continental breakfast” just outside the rooms and provide a suggestion for a local restaurant should you be inclined to have a full breakfast. This aspect goes a long way to making this experience so affordable! We will be returning with the intention to stay two nights and indulge in the “spa package”. We will add our vote to those who have already left their reviews- Two Thumbs Up!! Steven and Lynn, Bainsville, Ont.

“Leaf peepin mini vacation.”

If you are planning a trip along 43 highway in eastern Ontario be sure to book a reservation at the 1840 Guest House in Merrickville. We had planned on one night and stayed three. Beautiful B&B, new, modern and spotless along with wonderful hosts. The town of Merrickville is a gem and Mike was a great help and kept us busy checking out the local points of interest. A very relaxing and enjoyable three days.

“Spotlessly clean and welcoming owners”

The highlights of this wonderful B&B are the large, clean, airy rooms and Mike, the owner. Every amenity you could hope for in a room, including cable TV, Netflix, electric fireplace, clean/comfortable bed, free wifi, large/clean bathroom. The continental breakfast is served right outside your room door and is complete with muffins, cereal, yogurt and choices of teas and coffees. The rooms are all upstairs and there is a balcony off the common area that overlooks the river. Mike is so warm and friendly. He was very helpful in recommending several restaurants for dinner. He was also a wealth of information about the area and about the history of his home. The little town has several quaint shops and is a haven for artists, so you see a lot of original artwork. It was a perfect stop-over on our trip from Montreal to Niagara Falls!

“Wonderful Stay”

I travel to this area every year and this place was such a gem to find. Absolutely completely spotless and wonderful service. Having tea on the balcony in the evening was such a treat. I am not normally a fan of a B&B but the layout has been completed very well and you do not feel as though you are encroaching on the owner’s living quarters. So quiet, private and nestled away. Perfect stay.

“Best place to Stay in Merrickville!”

We had a great time this past weekend at the 1840 Guest House B&B! Such a great place to stay. The owners are very welcoming and accommodating. They gave great advice about restaurants shops and near by bike routes. The room was very nice and clean. If you’re planing a bike trip this is the perfect place to stay as they have a shed to lock bikes and provide local bike routes and maps. I would definitely stay here again! Thanks for the great Merrickville experience.

“Excellent place to stay in Merrickville”

A group of six of us, including family and friends, stopped at the 1840 Guest House for an overnight stay during our kayaking trip from Jones Falls to Ottawa. We were impressed by the warm hospitality and friendliness of the hosts, Dawn and Mike. The rooms were clean and beautiful, with very comfortable beds. The location is within easy walking distance to the Rideau Canal and key amenities. We look forward to our next visit.

“1840 B&B”

Gorgeous B&B, Mike is a very welcoming and accommodating host. We stayed one night as part of a paddling trip on the Rideau. I would recommend the 1840 to all paddlers, looking for good accommodations.

“Wonderful B&B”

My husband and I had cycled in from Ottawa on a very hot summer day. We had set out early to beat the heat so we arrived just after the previous guests had checked out. We were nonetheless welcomed by our hosts who were extremely accommodating. They let us enjoy refreshing drinks on the patio while they immediately made up our room for us. The room itself was spacious and spotlessly clean. The bed was oh-so-comfortable and we were so impressed by the beautiful quilts that decorated the B&B. I liked how breakfast items were set out in the common area the night before and we were able to help ourselves the next morning. This was great for us since we were up fairly early to get back on our bikes. The guesthouse is close to Merrickville’s many quaint artisanal shops and the area is great for cycling.

“Lovely Guest House in Merrickville”

Our family booked all four rooms at the 1840 Guest House for a three night stay in July. Everything was perfect from the time of booking to the end of our stay. Dawn and Mike have obviously put a lot of thought in to creating such a welcoming place. The location is very convenient to shops, restaurants and the canal. The layout of second floor of the Guest House was ideal for accommodating our group. We had the floor to ourselves and enjoyed the common area and balcony for visiting, and our private, well appointed rooms for quiet time. All four rooms are lovely. They are bright and airy, comfortable, spotless and spacious. We had everything we needed – lots of towels and pillows, Netflix, WiFi, breakfast goodies, bottled water, and a very helpful host and hostess. The balcony overlooks the Rideau and we all found it a very peaceful spot to enjoy our morning coffee. Dawn and Mike made us very welcome. Our stay in Merrickville at the beautiful 1840 Guest House was delightful and we would recommend it without hesitation.

“Wonderful Overnight at the 1840 Guest House.”

We had cycled from Ottawa to Merrickville to celebrate our 49th anniversary and found our first stay at the 1840 Guest House to be pretty much perfect. The room, “with a view” was terrific with big windows, furnished beautifully, lovely big bathroom, totally comfortable. The breakfast was great and we ate it out on the deck overlooking the canal. Mike and Dawn were very helpful and suggested a very nice place for dinner and directions for a evening walk beside the canal we would not have found alone. Highly recommended. “Good place for bikers”

My wife and I set out for a 180 km weekend bike trip from Gatineau to Merrickville (https://goo.gl/Vsf5gF) with another couple. We got to the B&B around 5pm. We could use a locked shed to store our bikes for the night. Our rooms (#1 and #2 overlooking the Rideau river) we ready and Mike was an excellent host to show us around. The rooms very new and extremely clean. Each room has an en-suite, walk in closet, free WiFi, TV, Netflix, comfy chairs, etc… The beds are also very comfortable. There is a 2nd floor patio (accessible from the common space between rooms 1 and 2) with chairs for the guests. This prove to be an excellent spot to relax after spending 6hrs on a bike. Breakfast consisted of muffins, cereal, coffee, fruit, granola bars and yogurt. There are a couple other spots close by where you can get something more elaborate but we didn’t feel the need after finishing our breakfast. Before leaving the next morning we had a bit of maintenance/adjusting to do on some bikes and Mike was really kind and offered his tools to help. I would recommend this place to everyone! I’ll definitely stay there again in the future if I happen to be in Merrickville for an overnight.

“Good place for boaters”

We are boaters and stayed at 1840 BB for one night . The place is very clean, walking distances from restaurants and the rideau canal . Mike is a real human library , gives good information . I would go back anytime .
